St. Joseph Wilmar School rehabilitation Project
In 2020, The Dream Center Foundation Adopted St. Joseph Wilmar School after visiting the school early that same year.
There was sewage water running through the classrooms and children had no playing space. The classes were small and scattered across several small parcels of land. There was need to have these 900 children schooling in one facility.
The dream center has since gotten space in a run-down dispensary, and we are currently in the process of rehabilitating this new facility into a functional school.
Since the facility had not been in use for over 15 years, a lot need to be done. Our objective is to ensure that the school gets better infrastructure, so that school children can learn in a good environment. This investment into the school infrastructure enhances motivation on the children leading to a sustainable and a secure future for the community.
The project will carry out a range of activities including: rehabilitation of classrooms, bathrooms, and the establishment of a new school kitchen. A new roof is required since the current roofing is made with asbestos roofing sheets which has since been banned in Kenya due to its hazardous nature.
The following activities are planned for:
- Renovation of the roof of all classrooms
- Construction of a new kitchen building
- Renovation of floors in the classrooms and staff office
- Construction of a new roof
- Purchase and construction of over 50 school desks
- Renovation of the Blackboards
- Renovation of Boys, Girls, and teaching staff bathrooms
- Procurement of furniture and office equipment
- Purchase of teaching equipment and sports and play area equipment
